A Branding Photoshoot for a Nutritionist

A conversation on the couch, a guidebook on the table and food preparation: these were all parts of the nutritionist’s work that we wanted to include in her branding photographs. She needed images for her website, social media and promotional material, so we planned a session with several uses in mind.

We booked a bright studio and divided the shoot into portraits, consultation scenes and photographs of the resources she uses with clients. That gave each part of the session a purpose.

Portraits to introduce the person behind the practice

Professional headshots were one part of the plan. An About page or business profile needs a clear introduction to the person a client will be working with.

For a shoot like this, I would start the shot list with the places those portraits will appear. A profile picture and a website section can need different framing, even when they come from the same session.

Showing a consultation

We photographed her talking with a client on the couch, then moved to a table where she explained points from her guide. The change of setting let us show two aspects of the consultation: conversation and working through information together.

Those images give the reader something concrete to look at alongside a description of the service. The guide also brings a detail from her own practice into the photographs.

Food preparation and the guidebook

I suggested including food preparation, and we also photographed the guidebook itself. These gave us subjects beyond portraits and conversation scenes.

If you are planning a branding shoot, consider the objects you actually use in your work. A resource you have written or a process you can demonstrate can help us build a more specific shot list.

Planning photographs around their use

This was a short session, so having the main subjects agreed beforehand helped us cover the different parts of the client’s work. The final series included portraits, interaction and details she could use across her own channels.

When planning a session for your business, bring examples of where the photographs will go and the parts of your work you want people to understand. We can use those to decide what to photograph and which space will suit the plan.
