A Branding Photoshoot for Cut 'N' Run Barbershop in Toronto
I arrived early at Cut ’N’ Run to set up the lighting and equipment before the barbershop opened to clients. The plan covered the shop itself, the barbers at work and portraits of the team.
Before the shoot, we discussed the look of the photographs and the parts of the business to include. That gave the session a route: exterior views, the interior, work-related scenes and portraits.
The storefront and the room inside
The storefront gave us signage and greenery to work with. Inside, I photographed the space so the selection would include the setting around the barber chairs as well as the people using them.
Those wider views introduce the location. They sit alongside the closer photographs of the barbers and their work, rather than asking one image to explain the whole business.
The barbers at work
I photographed the barbers working on haircuts and shaves. These scenes show activity within the shop and bring the services into the same selection as the interior photographs.
The lighting setup was part of the preparation for those frames. For a new session in a working business, we can plan the activities and positions around the space, staff availability and the photographs required.
Individual portraits and a team photograph
We also made individual headshots and a group photograph of the barbers. The individual portraits introduce members of the team; the group image brings them together in one frame.
Including both gives the business different photographs to choose from for staff profiles and a wider introduction to the shop. The brief can determine which combinations are useful before everyone steps away from their work.
Bring the brief together before the shoot
For Cut ’N’ Run, the session combined the storefront, interior, services and team. After photographing, I edited the images for colour, contrast and clarity across the selection.
For your own business, start with a list of the places, people and activities you need to show, along with where the images will appear. We can then work out the schedule, preparation and framing around those uses.
