Business Portraits in Toronto: Plan Beyond the Profile Photo

A portrait that reads clearly in a small LinkedIn circle may need a different crop from an image on your website. Before choosing the clothes or the background, start with where the photographs will appear. That gives the session a useful brief.

Give each photograph a job

Make a short list of the places that need an image: your profile, an About page, a team directory, a speaker biography or a press feature. Share examples of the page layouts if you have them. We can then plan close portraits, wider compositions and space for text where it is needed.

For a business with a team, it also helps to decide whether everyone needs the same crop and background. That choice affects the schedule as well as the final set.

Choose clothes that fit your work

Wear something you would be comfortable wearing when meeting a client. A jacket may suit one role; a relaxed shirt or work uniform may suit another. Clean, well-fitted clothing gives us a practical starting point.

Bring a second option if you want a change of tone. Check how the clothes sit when you are seated, and consider their colour alongside your website and the background. There is no single outfit that every professional needs to wear.

Let the setting add context

A simple studio background keeps attention on the person. Your workplace can include details that explain what you do. An outdoor location offers another look, with the timing and background planned around the available light and activity.

My MK Hair Studio branding shoot shows how individual portraits can sit alongside photographs of the premises, the team and people working. That wider coverage can be useful when a profile photograph is only one part of what your business needs.

Leave room for expression

You do not need to arrive with a pose memorised. I can guide your position and try changes in your angle, hands and expression. We can make both a more direct portrait and a warmer, relaxed variation, then consider which suits each use.

Keep the finished set consistent

Use photographs that belong together across your pages, while allowing different crops for different layouts. Update them when they no longer reflect your appearance, role or team; a fixed replacement date is less useful than checking whether the images still represent you.

Individual and team portraits can be included in a broader branding session. See my business photography options, or send me your team size and where the images will be used so we can plan the scope.
