A studio with large windows, a freestanding bath and a bed gave us the setting for One Cloudy Morning. I photographed the series with Yulia Gracheva on an overcast day, working with makeup artist Liudmila Elkina and wardrobe stylist Tatyana Podolyakina. The photographs were published in Boudoir Inspiration.
Overcast light and large windows
The cloudy weather was part of the mood of this shoot. Daylight from the studio's large windows gave us a soft starting point, and the bath sat close enough to the window for it to remain visible in the photographs.
I like the relationship between the window, the white bath and Yulia's pose in the opening image. The frame gives enough space to the room for the setting to be clear, then brings the attention back to her.
The bath and white fabric
We used sheer white fabric for the bath photographs. Its folds and transparency add another texture alongside the water and the smooth surface of the tub.
The published pages show several ways of framing this part of the shoot, from a view that includes the whole bath to closer portraits of Yulia's face, hands and shoulders.
A second setting on the bed
The bed gave us another direction for the series, with photographs in lingerie and without. Moving to that part of the studio changed the setting and the possible poses while keeping the images connected to the same shoot.
The gallery preserves the magazine pages, so you can see both the bath photographs and the other portraits in their published layouts.
