Tanya Frost in DAVMAG: A Hotel-Room Boudoir Editorial
A hotel room and its balcony gave us the setting for this boudoir shoot with Tanya Frost, later published in DAVMAG. The opening photograph shows Tanya seated on the floor by the balcony doors, with a towel wrapped around her hair. It gives the feature a quiet, getting-ready scene to begin with.
The hotel room as a setting
For this series, the existing room was the backdrop. In another portrait, Tanya stands beside the window in a black wrap, with the curtains and a lamp at the edge of the frame. Those details keep the room present without giving everything equal attention.
I like having those practical limits to respond to. A room gives you particular places to stand and particular lines to work with; the photographs develop from how you use them.
Taking the frame onto the balcony
The balcony gave us another part of the same setting to work with. It changed what could appear around Tanya and allowed the series to extend beyond the room's interior.
The original magazine pages below bring those views together. They show how a single location can support a sequence of photographs with different compositions.
The original DAVMAG feature
The opening spread appears above, followed by the rest of the published feature in the gallery. These are the original pages, with the magazine layout and printed credits preserved. The feature pairs the photographs with an editorial text under the title It Takes 1 to Flamenco, It Takes 2 to Tango.
Photography is by me, with Tanya Frost as the model. I am grateful to Tanya for the collaboration and to DAVMAG for publishing the series.
Planning a hotel-room boudoir shoot
If you are considering a hotel for your own photographs, share the room details before booking it and arrange approval for the shoot with the property. The room, access and photography conditions need to fit the session we are planning.
My hotel-room boudoir article looks at the practical choices in more detail. You can also explore my current boudoir photography sessions or tell me about your idea.
