Alone in the Home: A Natural-Light Boudoir Feature in SOLIS
The title was Alone in the Home, and the setting was a sunlit studio. For this boudoir series, I worked with Dasha, who was not a professional model, with makeup by Liudmila Elkina. The photographs were published in SOLIS Magazine.
Working with a non-professional model
We kept the approach straightforward and chose poses that were easy to follow. The aim was a classic boudoir series, with the attention on the person, the light and the way each pose fitted the frame.
This is one reason I like to share the shoot: it gives someone considering a first session a real set of photographs to look at. Previous modelling experience was not a requirement for this collaboration.
Daylight and simple poses
Bright natural light was the basis of the shoot. In the opening photograph, Dasha reclines beside a small table with flowers, with parquet visible around her. The furnishings give this studio portrait the feel of a room at home.
The original magazine pages below show the resulting series, with changes in pose and framing carrying the photographs from one page to the next.
The original SOLIS feature
The published pages are preserved here with their original layout and credits. The opening page credits photography to me, makeup to Liudmila Elkina and the model as Dasha.
I am grateful to everyone involved in the shoot and to SOLIS for publishing the photographs.
Planning your first boudoir session
You can arrive with references and questions rather than a list of poses you have already learned. We can discuss the mood, clothing and boundaries beforehand, then work through the photographs together.
My boudoir posing guide for clients explains how direction works during a session. For current options, see my boudoir photography page or tell me what you are considering.
