Suited: Inga Lis in Vertiqlè Magazine
A white shirt, dark trousers, suspenders and a hat give Suited its starting point. I photographed this black-and-white editorial with Inga Lis in Moscow, working with makeup artist Liudmila Elkina and stylist Tatyana Podolyakina. The series was published in Vertiqlè Magazine.
A Moscow setting
We photographed in an old yacht-club building on a river island in Moscow. Its architecture became part of the photographs: the balcony railing, window frames and interior details give Inga lines and shapes to work within.
In the opening spread, she leans against the balcony railing with one hand near the brim of her hat. The full-length frame lets the clothing and the setting establish the character of the series together.
What black and white brings out
The white shirt stands apart from the dark trousers and suspenders, while the railing adds a repeating pattern behind the pose. In black and white, those contrasts are especially clear.
The following pages move between portraits by the window and poses within the darker interior. The clothes, hands and direction of Inga's gaze carry the variety as the framing changes.
